ONYX VALVE CO – Model-K DIAPHRAGM SEAL

Safety:
1. Observe pressure and temperature limits. Do not use any diaphragm seal in a system that
operates at pressure or temperatures in excess of maximum rated conditions. Anticipate abnormal
conditions that may occur that could create higher than normal pressure or temperature.
2. Pressure and temperature limits for Onyx model- K diaphragm seals:
a. 316-Stainless Steel Bottom Housing:
i. P

= 500 psi (34 Bar) @ T
max
= -40° to +350°F (175°C)
b. PVC or Kynar Bottom Housing:
i. P
max
= 200 psi @ T = 74°F (P
max
= 14 Bar @ T = 23°C)
ii. P
max
= 125 psi @ T = 125°F (P
max
= 8.5 Bar @ T = 50°C)
iii. P
max
= 80 psi @ T = 150°F (P
max
= 5.5 Bar @ T = 65°C)
c. Accessory instruments: Onyx Diaphragm seals are rated at specific pressures shown
above, but the gauge, switch and/or transmitter that is attached to the device may have an
entirely different maximum allowable pressure. Mechanical gauges should not be
pressurized over the top of scale. The accessory instrument pressure limit and the
diaphragm seal pressure limit are different; always use the
lower of
the two pressure ratings.
3. Chemical compatibility: Make sure the materials of construction of the
diaphragm seal are compatible with the process fluid. Check chemical
compatibility with the Onyx Chemical Compatibility Table or consult the
Onyx Engineering Department. Make sure that your process fluid is
compatible with the Onyx model-K diaphragm which is made from Viton.
4. Do NOT use this diaphragm seal on oxygen service.
Installation:
1. The Onyx series-K diaphragm seal screws directly on to an NPT Pipe
connection. See part number break down on page-X for connection size.
a. Use Teflon tape or pipe dope to seal the connection threads.
b. The lower housing has two opposing flats machined in place to
facilitate grasping the device with a wrench or channel-lock pliers.
