H0
FKM
Fluorel® or
Viton®
Fluoropolymer
Fuels, natural gas condensates, lighter
hydrocarbons, gasoline, kerosene,
diesel fuel, #1 & #2 fuel oil. Good for -
20° to 400°F
Cannot be used on ketones or amines.
It is 2 times the density of NBR and six
times the cost/lb. This is not a panacea.
Poor hysteresis resistance. Releases
poisonous gas (fluorine) if burned.
HC
FKM
Fluorel® or
Viton®
Food grade* USP Class
VI Fluoropolymer
Should be considered for any CIP
application of high temperature
application in the food industry,
especially if nitric acid is being used in
the CIP cycle, due to its chemical and
temperature resistance. This material
is approved for ALL pharmaceutical
applications, including injectables like
insulin, serums, vaccines and
antibiotics
Cannot be used on ketones or amines.
It is 2 times the density of NBR and six
times the cost/lb. This is not a panacea.
Poor hysteresis resistance. Releases
poisonous gas (fluorine) if burned.
H9
TFE/P
Aflas®
Copolymer of
tetrafluoroethylene
and propylene
Good resistance to H2SO4, alkalis,
most fuels. Similar to FKM but more
resistant in certain applications.
Immersion tests always recommended
Not recommended for nitric acid. More
expensive than most FKM materials
H5
FKM-B
Fluorel® or
Viton® B
Fluoropolymer
Light grades of crude oils with natural
gas condensates: Brent crude,
especially. Resistant to H
2
SO
4
, H
2
S or
sour gas. Especially useful for high
temperature-high pressure sludge
treatment applications by Cambi,
Huber and others.
Cannot be used on ketones or amines.
It is 2 times the density of NBR and six
times the cost/lb. This is not a panacea.
Poor hysteresis resistance. Releases
poisonous gas (fluorine) if burned. Very
expensive
HG
FKM
Viton® GF-
600S
Fluoropolymer
Good for fuels with ethanol additives.
Improved resistance to steam, caustics
and amino acids,
Not good for carbonyls.
H8
FKM
Viton® ETP-
600S
Fluoropolymer
Most resistant of FKM materials.
Improved resistance for ketones,
hydraulic fluids, halogenated solvents,
amines. Most all hydrocarbons.
Expensive. Poor performance below
0°C.
HF
PFE
Kalrez®/
Chemraz®
Perfluoroelastomer
Resistant to most chemicals.
Temperatures to 500°F
Outrageously expensive!!! 150 times
the cost of Viton® Due to lack of tooling
and low volumes, special tubes may
have to be made by boring solid bar
stock. Poor performance below 0°C.
PU
AU, EU
Urethane
Polyurethane This is
a poured material
that is cured
chemically without
heat.
This is a poured material that is cured
chemically without heat. Commonly
used for in-line skate wheels. Good
abrasion resistance. Resistant to
styrene (no true elastomers are).
Especially good for materials that will
cut-up elastomers like sharp rocks,
struvite in WWT plants and ground
bone in meat processing. Good for low
temperatures.
Not good at temperatures above 150°F.
Not resistant to acids, alkalis, hot water
or steam. Can only be used on water or
styrene based slurries. About the same
cost as HNBR
FW
NBR
Buna
Soft (55 Durometer)
NBR material
Can offer improved abrasion resistance
from F0 at low speeds with oversized
rotors for increased compression.
Pressures should be <30 psi/stage.
Oversized rotors required. Torques and
BHP is ~10% > F0 with a standard rotor.
Seepex would rather offer F0 with an
SCT pump or a stator retensioning
device.
F3
NBR
Buna
Low water swell NBR
NBR is hydrophilic; it likes to soak up
pure water. Water is, after all, the
universal solvent. Most water is not
"pure" though. Clean drinking water,
distilled water and deionized water
can make NBR swell. In those
applications, F3 is an alternative but so
is R0. If extremely long life (years) is a
requirement, F3 may be an alternative.
To make NBR not swell additives are
required that will block the absorption.
These make the elastomer less
compliant and less resistant to erosion.
Do NOT use F3 on applications with
particulates or hydrocarbons, fats or
oils.
*Food Grade: Tested by an outside lab to meet 3A standards and meets FDA regulation: CFR 21§177.2600
Special Materials (May be stocked as finished parts for some customers. Elastomer is special order from the seepex supplier. If
the parts has never been made before, special tooling AND minimum order size or tooling charges may apply.
