RF output behavior during Sample & Hold depends on the configuration of your instru-
ment. Instruments equipped with...:
●
a
mechanical step attenuator
By default, the mechanical step attenuator is not switched during S&H cycles to
optimize the settling time. The instrument provides the output power for 3 ... 5
ms.
However, you can affect the attenuation at the output by the setting "RF during
Power Search" to "Minimum", see
erator decreases the level by 30
dB with the mechanical attenuator. Note that this
may take a certain period of time.
The
mechanical step attenuator
is switched off. However, you can affect the
attenuation at the output by the setting "RF during Power Search" to "Minimum",
see
. Then, the generator adjusts the level with the
mechanical attenuator, as described above. Note that mechanical attenuators take
a certain period of time.
●
no step attenuator
The signal generator outputs the set level for 3 to 5
ms after level or frequency set-
ting during a Sample & hold measurement.
Instruments equipped with one of the options R&S
SMF-B26 or R&S
SMF-B27
come without step attenuator.
The level control status is permanently displayed as a status message in the info line.

Automatic Level Control Settings
To open the "Automatic Level Control" dialog, select "Level Control" > "Configure" >
"Automatic Level Control" or use the MENU key under "Level Control".
The combined dialog "RF Level / EMF / ALC / UCOR" is divided into the several sec-
tions and provides access to the "ALC" settings and to function "User Correction", see
Chapter 5.4.7, "User Correction"
External level control via the EXT ALC input is offered in addition to internal ALC (see
Chapter 5.4.5.2, "External Level Control"
State - ALC
Activates/deactivates internal level control.
"On"
Activates ALC, regardless of the operating conditions.
This provides the highest level accuracy.
