Note:

Component tolerances in the rack can be very tight. Consequently, when

measuring rack dimensions, measure to the millimeter or 1/32 of an inch.

4. Rack considerations for the ActiveScale X100

Considerations

• If the rack cannot support the weight of the ActiveScale X100, the components can be split

between two adjacent racks. However, this will most likely require the use of longer network

cables. (A three-phase split rack kit (1EX0282) or a single-phase split rack kit (1EX0284) can

be ordered from Quantum Corporation which contain longer cables).

• A rack that supports slightly less than the static weight of an ActiveScale X100 could possibly

be used if the PDUs can be mounted in other, adjacent racks. But this is not considered a best

practice in most data centers.

• A rack that supports slightly less than the static weight of an ActiveScale X100 could possibly

be used if the user can accept severe restrictions to the scale-up capabilities of the ActiveScale

X100. That is, if each Storage Enclosure Basic contains only one or two fully populated sleds

each--and the system will never be scaled up--then the weight the rack will need to support will

be less.

Note:

Before installing ActiveScale X100 in a rack that does not meet the weight support

requirements, or before splitting the ActiveScale X100 components between racks, contact

Quantum Corporation support.

• If you are using horizontal PDUs, you will need to add additional U space to the 38U

ActiveScale X100 requirement.

• If other equipment will also reside in the rack, you will need to ensure that ActiveScale X100

has at least 38Us as well as sufficient open power receptacles in the PDUs.

Considerations

• The SAS connections and power connections for Storage Enclosure Basics are at the front of

the component, and the power cables and data cables will need to be threaded to the back of the

rack. In some cases the width of the cabinet allows the power cable molding to be threaded

from the side of the front rail. In other cases, the front rail can be set back 2 1/2" (65 mm) to

allow the power cable moldings to be threaded between the front vertical rail and the cabinet.
