PHANTOM BRAKE PAD INSPECTION /
REPLACEMENT
Phantom brake pads need to be replaced if the pad
material thickness is less than 1/16 in (1.5 mm).
1. Remove the brake pad retaining pin from the caliper.
2. Extract both brake pads.
NOTICE
Do not compress the brake lever when the brake pads
are removed from the caliper.
3. Inspect the brake disc for abnormal wear.
4. Measure the brake pad friction material and compare
to specification

MEASUREMENT
Phantom Brake Pad Minimum Thickness:
1/16 in (1.5 mm)
5. Replace brake pads as a set if one or both pads do
not meet the minimum specification.
IMPORTANT
Always replace brake pads as a set.
6. Install the brake pads back into the caliper.
7. Reinstall the retaining pin.
8. Test brake system prior to returning vehicle to
service.
BRAKE LEVER / MASTER CYLINDER
SERVICE
NOTICE
The brake switch is mounted to the valve body. The
brake switch can be removed without master cylinder
removal or disassembly.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Note the orientation of the brake hose at the master
cylinder. Loosen the hose banjo bolt

from the
reservoir.
2. Unravel the harness covering

to expose the brake
switch connector.
