OIL INJECTOR CHECK VALVES
Five oil injector check valves
q
are pressed into the
engine.
Test a check valve using a Mity Vac hand pump.
NOTICE
External oil injector check valves should be tested
whenever servicing the engine.
Pressure test should be done with engine / oil at room
temperature 68 °F (20 °C). Lower temperatures may
provide higher pressure readings.
All check valves except for the external center gallery
check valve should hold pressure up to 3 - 17 psi (20.7 -
117.2 kPa) and then open.
The external center gallery check valve should hold
pressure up to 3 - 17 psi (20.7 - 117.2 kPa) and then
open.
NOTICE
When the engine crankcase is fully assembled and
sealed, the external center gallery check valve pop-off
pressure can vary between 3 - 17 psi (20.7 - 117.2 kPa)
because of the level of oil in the center gallery cavity.
When pressure testing the external center gallery check
valve, verify oil is not leaking from the crankcase weep
hole.
IMPORTANT
Always replace a check valve that fails to achieve the
minimum opening pressure of 3 psi (20.7 kPa) before
opening. Also replace any check valve that requires
more than the maximum opening pressure of 6 psi
(41.4 kPa) or 17 psi (117.2 kPa) for the external center
gallery check valve to open.
EXTERNAL OIL INJECTOR CHECK
VALVE REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the oil check valve fitting
q
using a vise grip
pliers.
NOTICE
Note the orientation of the fitting to ensure proper
installation.
2. Apply a drop of green Loctite 603 to the new oil check
valve fitting barrel
y
.
IMPORTANT
Be careful not to drip any Loctite on the inlet or outlet of
the check valve fitting.
