The Workstation Installation/Operation Manual Version 2 Document 51540 Rev. B1 4/8/02
The Audio Properties option calls up the system sound settings that are specific to the sound card in use on the
workstation. This form allows control of such items as sample rate, sound quality (vs. performance), etc.
Effects Pulldown
The Effects menu contains options that modify the data of the current audio file. Increase and Decrease Volume
raises and lowers the volume of the sound file by 25%. This can be used to maximize the signal of quieter portions
of the sound file, and tone down portions that are too loud.
Decrease and Increase Speed by 100% either doubles or halves the speed of the current audio file. These
functions cancel each other, so performing them each once will result in the original file at its original speed and
pitch. Keep in mind that any change in speed also causes a proportional change in pitch. Halving the speed
lowers the sound by one octave, doubling the speed raises the sound by one octave.
Add Echo adds a small amount of digitally generated reverberation to the sound file. Echo and reverberation can
increase the perceived depth and density of a sound. Although the basic echo used in Sound Recorder is by no
means high quality, it can add a bit of fullness to otherwise dull sound effects and voice recordings.
The Reverse command reverses the data of the current file so that it plays backwards (actually play forwards, but the
data is now ordered backwards). This can be used to create odd sound effects, or combined with the Echo
command, a Reverse Echo effect. The reverse command is self canceling, meaning that performing two reverse
commands will result in the original (non-reversed) file.
