The Workstation Installation/Operation Manual Version 2 Document 51540 Rev. B1 4/8/02
Length Readout
The
Length
readout displays the total length (in seconds) of the currently open digital audio file. This display is
very useful for monitoring specific record times when recording new files directly with the Sound Recorder.
Wave Display
the
Wave Display
rests in the middle of the sound recorder window and is used to display the wave file being
edited and played. This display moves with the wave file as it is played back, and can serve as a visual reference
for position within a file.
Pull Down Menus
Pull Down menus within Sound Recorder offer most of the more advanced editing options. These are generally
divided by their commands, so that is how they are presented here.

File Pulldown
The
File
options all operate as would the standard file commands within any windows application.
Revert
reloads the last save of the current file to allow a comprehensive undo.
Properties
calls up the properties and file
format information for the current audio file. This includes information such as sample rate, length, file size, etc.
The File Properties form also has an option to convert rates. In most applications used within the workstation, all
that is needed is save and exit.
Edit Pulldown
Like the
File
pulldown, the
Edit
pulldown's features operate in a standard fashion with a few exceptions.
Paste
Insert
pastes at the current position in the file, inserting the new data and moving the existing data behind it. To
paste at the beginning or end of the file, use the
Seek to Beginning
and
Seek to End
transport controls. Paste
Insert will increase the total file length by the length of the copied section of audio.
Paste Mix
pastes at the current position, but mixes the audio from the portion on the clipboard with the audio in
the file that it overlays. This option does not change the length of the file.
Insert File
and
Mix w/ File
operate in the exact same fashion as the
Paste
commands except that instead of
using data from the clipboard, it allows the user to specify a file to use.
Delete after current position
and
Delete before current position
delete all data either before or after the
current position. This can easily be used to truncate silence from the end of a file by stopping playback after the
needed audio and then selecting
Delete after current position
.
