The Workstation Installation/Operation Manual Version 2 Document 51540 Rev. B1 4/8/02
Command Buttons
- see Functional Buttons.
Control Profiles
- Control profiles determine what devices the workstation is currently supervising. If a worksta-
tion does not have control of a device, commands and actions relating to that device will affect only the device
locally (on screen). In order to affect a device on the network, the operator must have control of that device.
D
Device ID
- The device ID is the eight character alphanumeric address suffix for the monitored point reported by
the NION. The Device ID for each device must match the device ID reported by the NION. The device ID makes
up the last 8 characters of a device's absolute address.
Discrete Devices
- Discrete devices are monitored nodes, NIONs, and panels with defined (
discrete
) states or
conditions. These conditions are annunciated at the workstation. For example, a pullstation either reports a
normal state, an alarm state, or a trouble state. Normal state indicates normal operation, Alarm state shows that
the pullstation has been activated, and a Trouble state indicates a functional problem with the device.
Display ID
- Refer to Alias ID.
E
Echelon Network
- LonWorks Technologies open architecture standard used for communication between
devices and either a local area server or BCI on the UniNet network.
Ethernet
- Network communication standard using the TCP/IP protocol. Used to connect workstations, servers,
and event managers in the UniNet system.
Event
- An Event is any change in the status of a device or a transfer of information between a device and either
the workstation or another device. Some of these events are considered
background
and
housekeeping
events,
and are not seen by the user. The events that are of primary concern to the operator are those identified as off-
normal events.
Event Manager
- The event manager is the layer of the UniNet system that provides communication between
local and wide area servers and the workstations. The event manager takes all events reported by all active servers,
and communicates them to the appropriate workstation. (See UniNet System Architecture)
Event Printer
- An event printer is a dot matrix printer that attaches to either the COM port of a workstation or a
printer NION (NION-PRN). Event printers print all events that are annunciated at the workstation.
F
Fire Alarm Event
- Event issued by fire protection devices such as pullstations, smoke detectors, and sprinkler
systems.
Floor Plan Display
- The Floor Plan display provides the primary source of the workstation visual feedback and
interaction with the network. The display can show any number of various screens, each containing one or more
devices. Devices include fire panels, fire protection devices, security devices, cameras, card access stations, and a
wide variety of other equipment.
Functional Buttons
- Functional Buttons are buttons on the screen display that execute macro functions, as
defined by the system administrator.
G
Graphics Printer
- The graphics printer is attached to the workstation by the parallel port and is configured
through the standard windows printer interface. A Graphics printer can be used to print various reports, floor
plans, and lists from the workstation.
Guidance Text
- Guidance text is linked text associated with a specific screen. Usually this material relates to
special procedures or precautions. Guidance text provides real world text explanations to operators concerning
what to do in special emergency situations, including instructions, contact phone numbers, etc.
