Chapter 3 - Installing Instrument Boards

Note

: I/O space in the range of A000 through EFFF is reserved for

PCI devices in the GT7700; therefore, utilize I/O space
below A000 when configuring GT7020, GT7021, and
GTXI-702 Carrier Boards.

Using the carrier board offset DIP switches, the boards are set at
different addresses to avoid conflicts. For example, Table 3-3 shows
offset settings for boards that initially had the same address of
0x0300.

Table 3-3: Offset examples

The carrier board’s offset switches are located along the lower part

of the board, near the center length of the board.

Note:

Typically, each offset address is unique for each of the

carrier boards on the GTXI platform.

There are five models of carrier boards for the GTXI system:

The model GT7730 for CPCI and PXI boards. This model
is plug-and-play, and therefore is configured automatically
by the operating system and requires no DIP switches.

♦

The model GT7720 for PCI boards. This model is plug-
and-play, and therefore is configured automatically by the
operating system and requires no DIP switches.

♦

The model GT7021 for ISA boards. This model also uses
address lines A4-A15 and has two DIP switches (SW2 and
SW1). Additionally, the GT7021 has GTXI-702
compatible mode, plug-and-play, and 16-bit addressing
mode.

♦

The model GT7020 for ISA boards. This model uses
address lines A4-A15 and has two DIP switches (SW2 and
SW1).
