Select the Manual Gas mode using the Operating Mode button. Select
the program to run using the Program Select button. Enable the program
by pressing the Enable/Standby button on the Auto Controller. Press the
Enable/Standby button again to stop the program and put the units into
Standby.
All of the setpoints can be adjusted before or after the Auto Controller is
enabled as in the gas only mode.
Saving a program is the accomplished in the same manner as described
above for the Auto Gas and Gas Only operating modes.
4.4 Remote Enable/Standby
The auto controller can be remotely enabled by connecting pins 7 and 20 on
the rear panel female DB-25 pin connector after selecting Remote from the
front panel of the Auto Controller by pressing the Remote/Local button. Open-
ing the connection between pins 7 and 20 will put the unit into standby. If this
option was requested with the initial order, then a male DB-25 pin connector
with two wire pigtails or a user speci
fi
ed connector will be supplied.
Supplying a remote enable serves the same function as the Enable/Standby
button on the front panel of the auto controller. All the other front panel controls
remain active as described in the preceding sections.
4.5 Open Filament
If the
fi
lament breaks during a run, there is an audible alarm from the Filament
Power Supply. Additionally, the open
fi
lament LED on the front panel of the
fi
la-
ment controller will be displayed and HLP 3 will be displayed on the Filament
controller.
Caution: Turn off power to the Auto Controller, Filament Power Supply and
Discharge Power Supply before changing the
fi
lament, to prevent electri-
cal shock. Also be careful not to burn yourself on the hot ion source. Use
protective heat resistant gloves, or wait until the ion source is cool before
changing the
fi
lament.
If the remote enable is used, then open the remote
enable contact as well. After the
fi
lament is changed, turn the Discharge Con-
troller, Filament Controller and Auto Controller on. Make sure that the desired
Operating Mode for the Auto Controller is still selected.
