Electronic Programme Guide (EPG)
6.1
General information on the programme guide
What is the programme guide?
The programme guide (referred to hereafter as EPG) is an editorially prepared programme
guide of the latest generation. It provides all the EPG information for around 160 TV channels
free of charge, without you having to change channel, and also offers schedule information up
to two weeks ahead.
Which channels are supported by the EPG?
You can see the channels that are supported by the EPG in the channel list (see also
"5.14.2 Channel selection from the channel list" on page 27). On the one hand, the channels
that are supported are indicated by the transmitter logos, and on the other hand, you have the
facility of displaying a tvtv EPG channel list (this is operational only once an EPG grabbing has
been performed).
Are there limitations with the EPG?
Due to the large amount of data being transmitted, the receiver cannot store all the data for
the channels supported by the EPG. The receiver confi guration is therefore factory-set to
accept tvtv EPG data for a limited number of channels only. Refer to "13.5.6 tvtv data on/off" on
page 94 to fi nd out how you can edit this preconfi gured list. The more channels are added to
this list, the less data are available for them, due to system restrictions.
Where does the EPG data come from?
The EPG is broadcast via the ASTRA satellite at a frequency of 12,603.75 MHz, at a symbol
rate of 22 MSymb/s and horizontal polarisation (18 V). If you have accidentally deleted the
transponder at this frequency, you will need to start a new satellite and transponder scan for the
ASTRA satellite (see "14 Main menu - Channel Search" on page 98).
Could something other than the receiver be preventing the EPG from working?
In case of receivers not produced by Kathrein, it may happen that EPG data cannot be
transmitted. With such systems, the necessary transponder (12,603.75 MHz, symbol rate
22 MSymb, horizontal) is not transmitted. To test this out, select the channel "WDR Bonn" since
this broadcast on the same transponder as the EPG data.
What about EPG data for broadcasters that are not broadcast via ASTRA?
For broadcasters that broadcast using the "HOTBIRD 13° East" satellite you must perform
an additional channel search using that satellite. Exception: Broadcasters who are supported
by tvtv. These also support EPG data via ASTRA.
