Installing Operational Software on the New Hard Drive
Note: This procedure should be performed by trained IBM service personnel. Customers who need this
done should contact IBM service.
Follow these steps to install the operational software on the hard drive:

Restart the IBM 2216 in Attended mode or press F1 (possibly several times) during the load
sequence from a console. (You can also access the firmware from the command line interface.
See the chapter entitled “Accessing the Firmware from the Command Line Interface” in the

Software User’s Guide for additional information.) This will bring up the firmware System
Management Services menu.

Select Utilities.

From the menu, select Prepare Hard Disk and press Enter.

If no errors occur, continue with step 4.

If error code 30002000 occurs during format, proceed as follows:
a. From the System Management Services menu, select Select Device to Test
b. Select Test IDE devices
c. Press the F4 key for Parm Setup
d. Select Run Interactive Test and Stop on Error
e. Press F6 to begin the tests
Attention The next step formats the hard disk and destroys all data on the hard disk
f. Select Format IDE device, and press Enter
g. Return to step 3.

Reload the firmware to the hard disk using Xmodem (see “Updating System Firmware” on
page 4-14).

The hard drive is now prepared to receive operational software files.

Select Utilities from the System Management Services menu

Select Change Management (see “Change Management” on page 4-21).

Use Xmodem to transfer the complete set of operational software files from a workstation to the IBM
2216 hard drive (see step 10 on page F-10). You transfer the files to banks within the IBM 2216.
These banks represent the directories that you have just created.

After you have successfully transferred the operational software, go through the configuration
procedures to enable the new software (see “Performing Change Management Operations” in the
Multiprotocol Access Services Software User’s Guide).
