Use the

installp utility for installation. The software is always committed after installation.

Insert the Tape Device Driver/AIX Enhanced diskette into the diskette drive on the workstation.

Note: You must have

root authority to perform the commands in this section.

To install the device driver, enter the following command from the command line:

installp -acXd /dev/rfd Atape.driver

If the same version of

Atape.driver is installed, then use the installp command with the -F flag

to force an installation. The installation procedure automatically de-configures any devices
from the device driver and reconfigures them after the new driver is installed.

Enter the following command to list the currently installed version of

Atape.driver:

lslpp -l Atape.driver

Configuring the 3570

After the driver software is installed and a 3570 is connected to the adapter card, the 3570 can
be configured and made available for use. Access to the 3570 is not provided until the 3570
is configured.

a. Configure a 3570 Tape Subsystem by entering the following command with no

parameters:

cfgmgr

The command automatically configures all devices known to the

Atape.driver, including

any new 3570 devices.

b. Enter the following command to verify that the configuration completed successfully:

lsdev -Cc tape

For AS/400:

Ensure the AS/400 system value for Auto Configure Devices is set to ON.

Turn the power ON. If the 3570 is not recognized by the host (initiator), confirm that the required
PTFs are installed (see Figure 194 on page INST-6), and re-IPL the AS/400 IOP card to which
the 3570 is attached.

Note: If this is a Windows NT system, ensure that your customer has installed the proper

Adaptec adapter card that is needed to attach the 3570 drive subsystem. See

“Pre-Installation Checks” on page INST-2.

5. In the following host test, you should read and write a cartridge on any single drive system, and if

more than one drive is being installed, you should write on the first and read back on the second,
then write on the second and read back on the first.

a. If you are installing the 3570s in an AIX environment, perform “Checking the SCSI Attachment

in an AIX Environment” on page PROC-69 and return here.

b. If you are installing the 3570s in an AS/400 environment, perform “Checking the SCSI

Attachment in an AS/400 Environment” on page PROC-65 and return here.

c. If you are installing the 3570s in a Sun environment, perform “Checking the SCSI Attachment

in a Sun Environment” on page PROC-73 and return here.
