most

crash

the
most
serious

crash,

to

from
the
ro
ot
disk
b ecause
the
data
on
the
disk
has

corrupted,
or
the
disk
itself
may
ha

e
b een
damaged.
In
this
situation,

computer
from
an
alternate
device,

as
a
DDS
tap
e
driv
e.
Y
ou
cannot
b o ot
y
our
system
from
a
bac
kup.
Y
ou
can
start
y
our
system
only
from
a
b o otable
image
on
a
disk
or
on
a
tap
e.
A
reco
v
ery
system
con
tains
suc
h
a
b o otable
image,
along
with
a
small
subset
of
y
our
le
system,
just
enough
to
get
y
our
computer
started
after
a
disk
failure.
Unlike
a
bac
kup,
a
reco
v
ery
system
can
b e
used
to
start
y
our
computer.
Once
y
ou
get
the
computer
op erating
again,
y
ou
can
restore
all
of
y
our
les
from
a
bac
kup.

transmit

driv
e
uses
the
device
le

/dev/update.src

that

are
using
a
DDS
tap

driv
e
to
create
a
reco
v
ery
system.
Y

may
use
other
devices
for
the
reco
v
ery
system,
suc

as
a
magneto-optical
disk
or
a
spare
hard
disk.

use

it
