12.1 SP functionality
12.1.1 Overview of SP
The SP (service processor) on a NIF is programmable and ready to process packets at high
speeds. Replacement of the SP firmware allows the NIF with an SP to support various
packet processing.
Packets are processed in the following manner.
The Device forwards packets received from another device to the SP.
The SP processes the packets according to the firmware.
The Device sends the packets forwarded from the SP to another device.

12.1.2 Notes on the SP
Do not set the following items for the line connected to the SP in a NIF:
Settings for spanning trees
Settings for the ring protocol
Settings for discarding packets sent to the SP.
Configuration for IEEE802.3ah OAM
Configuration for storm control
Configuration for L2 loop detection
Configuration for LLDP or OADP
Configuration for GSRP
Configuration for VRRP
Routing protocol
Configuration for DHCP server
MTU settings (Use the default values.)
Settings for link-down detection timers
Settings for link-up detection timers
Flow control settings
Execution of line tests
