PROFINET
A communication system for Industrial Ethernet designed and developed by
PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI). It uses some mechanisms
similar to those of the PROFIBUS field bus.
PROFINET IO Controller
A PROFINET control unit responsible for the defined run-up of an I/O
subsystem and the cyclic or acyclic data exchange.
PROFINET IO Device
A PROFINET field device that cyclically receives output data from its IO-
Controller and responds with its input data.
