User Manual

Step 2: Install the new fan assembly

1 Connect the power connector for the replacement fan assembly to the FAN 1 jack on

the card.

2 Insert the wires for the fan assembly into the wire clips.
3 Place the fan assembly on the heatsink and align the two pushpins with their

respective holes on the card.

4 Press down on the fan assembly to hold it in place and press the pushpins into the

holes until they lock into place.

Troubleshooting

Following a methodical process of elimination, try the following steps.

1 Are you using the latest XIP

3901 firmware?

2 The Status Indicators on the XIP

3901 show if it is powered and these indicators provide

troubleshooting information. See

Front Card-edge Interface

, on page 35.

3 Make sure the fiber connectors are clean, as the problem is often related to dust

obstructing the light at the fiber connections. See

Keep Fiber Connections Clean

, on

page 288.

4 Use another fiber connection.
5 Swap components of the XIP

3901 with known working components, one component

at a time in a systematic fashion to further isolate the issue. For example, swap the SFP

transceiver cartridges or use a different port on the network switch.
