Glossary
ECU : Electronic Control Unit. An ECU is an embedded system that controls one or more systems or
subsystems present in a motor vehicle.
EAS : Electronic Air Suspension. This defines all components of the air suspension system including
the electronic control unit or ECU.
CAN : For Controller Area Network, is a communication protocol which connects ECU’s via a two wires
interface.
Vehicle control module software updates (Re-Flashing) : The action of programming an ECU firmware.
The term flashing comes from the fact that microcontrollers used in ECU’s are made with flash memory.
VIN : Vehicle Identification Number. It’s a unique code which includes information about the vehicle’s
configuration and its serial number.
DTC : For Diagnostic Trouble Code or fault code.
