This chapter describes the features of the PRIMEPOWER850/650.
• High-performance SPARC64 V Processors
l
The SPARC64 V is a high-performance processor with an out-of-order execution
engine.
l
The SPARC64 V features high-speed arithmetic operations with high-precision
branch prediction.
l
The SPARC64 V supports a large external cache and on-chip cache.
l
ECC (error checking and correction code) is used in both the on-chip and external
caches.
• High-performance Multiprocessor Platform
l
The PRIMEPOWER850/650 main unit uses Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP)
architecture (maximum number of CPUs varies from model to model).
l
Memory interleaving is supported (maximum number of interleaves varies from
model to model).
l
The PRIMEPOWER850/650 unit implements a packet-based bus protocol, with a
throughput of 2 GB/s per processor.
l
A high-speed crossbar switched multiprocessor interface enables simultaneous
operation of multiple processors, I/O, and memory devices, and faster data
transfers.
• High-speed I/O Interface
The following high-speed I/O interfaces are provided as standard:

100Base-TX (100/10 Mbps auto-sensing)
l
64-bit PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) busses
• High-performance, Large-capacity Storage Devices
l
Ultra SCSI disk drives (10,000 rpm) can be added (maximum number of drives
varies from model to model).
l
A DVD-ROM drive is provided as standard.
l
One DAT unit can be added as an option.
