3.4.3

Adding memory modules

Each system board installed in a PRIMEPOWER850 rack-mount type (16U) server is

equipped with 32 memory module slots. Note the following important information

regarding memory module expansion.

Correct operation for configurations other than those given below cannot be
guaranteed.

Always add a group of four memory modules having the same capacity.

Figure 3.18

is a memory module installation diagram.

Table 3.6

lists memory module installation patterns.

Figure 3.19

is an example of increasing the total memory module capacity to 6 GB.

Note:

MSC stands for midrange system controller, and MSC0 and MSC1 are the

two system controllers which are mounted on the system board. Each MSC

controls half of the memory modules.
