Appendix B Instance Numbers

This appendix explains the PCI card device instance numbers that are required for

installing the Solaris

Operating Environment.

B.1

Controller Number and Interface Name

Instance numbers are assigned to PCI slot interfaces on a system board as follows:

Controller number (cX)

When a PCI card, such as a SCSI interface card, belonging to controller devices is

inserted, a controller number is assigned to the card. “X” of “cX” is an instance

number.

Interface name (hmeX)

An interface name is assigned to a LAN interface card or the basic interface. “X”

in the “hmeX” character string is an instance number.

The controller number and interface name are required for installing the Solaris

Operating System.
