You can remove and replace a fan tray assembly while the NetIron MLX-4 or NetIron MLX-8 chassis is powered on
and running.
To replace a fan tray assembly, you need the following:
•
A new fan tray assembly, which you can order from Foundry
•
An ESD wrist strap with a plug for connection to the ESD connector on the NetIron MLX Series chassis
WARNING:
For safety reasons, the ESD wrist strap should contain a 1 meg ohm series resistor.
To replace a fan tray assembly in the NetIron MLX-4 and NetIron MLX-8, do the following:
1.
Put on the ESD wrist strap and ground yourself by inserting the plug into the ESD connector located on the
front of the chassis.
2.
Remove the fan tray assembly from the chassis by pushing down on the latch release with your thumb,
grabbing the handle on the fan assembly, and pulling it toward you as shown in Figure 6.10 and Figure 6.11.
Pulling the assembly unseats the fan tray assembly connector from a chassis connector.
WARNING:
Be careful not to insert your fingers into the fan while removing it from the chassis. The fan may still
be spinning at a high speed.
