This section provides information about the following tasks:
•
Removing an interface module
•
Installing a new interface module
Removing an Interface Module
To perform this task, you must have the following on hand:
•
An ESD wrist strap with a plug for connection to the ESD connector on the NetIron MLX Series chassis
WARNING:
For safety reasons, the ESD wrist strap should contain a 1 meg ohm series resistor.
•
A large flat-head screwdriver
Although interface cables in the NetIron MLX-32 can be very dense because of the high capacity of the chassis,
you can access interface modules in the top row of the upper card cage without having to disconnect cables from
the bottom row of that same card cage. Simply move the cables from the lower card cage over, as shown in Figure
6.1.
Figure 6.1 Interface Module Access
To remove an interface module from the NetIron MLX Series chassis, do the following:
1.
Put on the ESD wrist strap and ground yourself by inserting the plug into the ESD connector on the chassis.
2.
Using the flathead screwdriver, loosen the two screws on the ends of the module.
3.
Pull the card ejectors towards you, and away from the module front panel. This action unseats the module
from the backplane.
4.
Pull the module out of the chassis, and place in an anti-static bag for storage if desired.
5.
Install a new module in the slot. For information about performing this task, see “Installing a New Interface
Module” next.
CAUTION:
If you do not install a module in a slot, you must keep the slot panel in place. If you run the chas-
sis with an uncovered slot, the system may overheat.
Installing a New Interface Module
You can install a new interface module while the NetIron MLX Series chassis is powered on and running.
