The NetIron MLX-32 fan control modules include a bi-color LED, which indicates the status of the fans. Table 2.14
describes the LED.

The NetIron MLX Series chassis ships with all fan components fully installed. However, Foundry recommends that
you replace the air filters quarterly. For information about replacing the air filter and if necessary, other fan
components, see “Maintaining a NetIron MLX Series Router” on page 6-1. The fan components are hot
swappable, which means you can remove and replace them without powering down the system.

CAUTION:

To avoid overheating of the NetIron MLX Series chassis, remove only one fan at a time. Failure to

have sufficient air flow within the chassis for an extended period of time may cause damage to the system. Do not
remove all fans from the chassis at one time.

Rack Mount Kit

The NetIron MLX Series chassis are shipped equipped for mounting in a standard 19-inch (EIA310-D) rack as
described:

•

The NetIron MLX-4 and NetIron MLX-8 are equipped with built-in mounting brackets.

•

The NetIron MLX-16 and NetIron MLX-32 chassis ship with two L-shaped mounting brackets.

NOTE:

You must supply your own standard #12-24 pan-head screws for attaching the mounting brackets to your

rack.

In a rack, you can install the following number of NetIron MLX Series chassis depending on the model:

•

NetIron MLX-32 – 1 NetIron MLX-32 chassis

•

NetIron MLX-16 – up to 3 NetIron MLX-16 chassis

•

NetIron MLX-8 – up to 6 NetIron MLX-8 chassis

•

NetIron MLX-4 – up to 10 NetIron MLX-4 chassis
