specific information. Specific contents of this field are determined by release and are available in the relevant
release notes.

FPGA versions must be compatible with software images installed. Compatibility information is contained
within the relevant release notes.
SNMP on Systems with NI-MLX-1Gx48-T Modules
If you are using SNMP to manage NetIron MLX devices, changes to the number of ifIndexes available per module
are introduced along with the introduction of the NI-MLX-1Gx48-T module. Refer to the "Configuring SNMP
ifIndex" section of the "Configuring Basic Parameters" chapter in the
Foundry NetIron Configuration Guide
for
details.
Software Images Required
Beginning with version 03.5.00, the Multi-Service IronWare software images were changed to make it easier for
users to upgrade IronWare images as described in the following:
•
To simplify Multi-Service IronWare upgrades, we have reduced the number of files needed to upgrade a
NetIron MLX Series or NetIron MLX Series router.
•
A single-bundled IronWare image now contains both management module and interface module IronWare
images. Using this single-bundled image:
•
simplifies upgrading the system
•
reduces the chance of operator error
•
ensures that image versions on all the management modules and interface modules are consistent
Please note that you must be upgrading from a 03.5.00 or later image to a 03.5.00 or later image before you
can take advantage of this feature.
•
Boot images no longer need to be upgraded with each release and in fact will almost never need to be
changed. This eliminates one extra step in the upgrade process, thus simplifying the upgrade procedure,
reducing the chance of operator error and leading to a faster upgrade process.
•
The Monitor image no longer needs to be upgraded with each release. In release 03.5.00, all OS functions
have been moved out of the Monitor image into the IronWare image. This has simplified the Monitor image
and it no longer needs to be upgraded every time, thus eliminating another step in the upgrade process.
Please note that you must be upgrading from a 03.5.00 or later image to a 03.5.00 or later image before you
can take advantage of this feature.
