low. This could cause a premature joint failure. If
there is too much material in the joint area a bump
will be produced.
Operating Hints
The following are some specific considerations for
operation of asphalt pavers. While not all-inclusive,
following these recommendations should reduce
the risk of problems and improve rubber track dura-
bility and reliability.
Asphalt Buildup

- Asphalt Buildup
During paving, asphalt sometimes flows down to
the rear drive wheel and can become packed be-
tween the tractor and screed. This may cause the
following problems:
•
Oil in the asphalt will cause the rubber to
soften and reduce the durability.
•
Aggregate will abrade the rubber and
shorten its life.
•
Asphalt material buildup in the undercar-
riage will cause additional tension.
Hydraulic Tunnel

To help prevent asphalt from flowing down to the
rear wheel, two options are available: manual ma-
terial retaining plates and hydraulic tunnel. The ma-
chine is equipped with manual retaining plates by
default unless hydraulic tunnel option is elected.
Hydraulic tunnel can be extended or retracted by
operating a switch located in the screed console.
Extend tunnel before paving begins. Tunnels auto-
matically retract with screed retraction.
