Receive the Machine
Initial Inspection of the Equipment
As each load is signed for and accepted by the car-
rier, it becomes the property of the purchaser. To
avoid forfeiting claims, any damage—whether ob-
vious or hidden—normally must be reported to the
transportation company within 5 days of receipt of
the equipment at the purchaser’s premises.
It is the responsibility of the purchaser to file for any
damage claims directly with the carrier. Company
personnel cannot file for the purchaser.

When the equipment arrives at the job site,
inspect it for damage.
2. If a shipment is damaged in transit:
a. Note the damage on the bill of lading.
b. Do not unload the damaged equipment.
c.
Immediately notify the carrier and request
an inspection. The inspection will be done
by the carrier or the carriers’s insurance
company.
d. After the inspection, it will be determined
whether items will be repaired or replaced.
If hidden damage is found after the carrier’s rep-
resentative has gone, do not continue to unpack
or move the equipment. Contact the carrier’s local
office and have the terminal manager or autho -
rized representative make an immediate personal
inspection of the damage. Obtain a written descrip-
tion of the damage, and photos if available, signed
by the representative as proof of a valid claim.
If the purchaser does not follow the above instruc-
tions, the carrier may not honor any damage claims.
Load/Unload Paver on/off a
Trailer
Ground Clearance
The paver can be loaded or unloaded from vari-
ous kinds of trailers. When loading or unloading a
paver, the clearance from the ground to the auger
or screen becomes a concern. Some trailers will
require construction of a ramp long enough so the
augers or screed will not drag on the ground.
When loading/unloading a paver from a trailer, en-
sure that the range switch is in the turtle position
and the PSA is set to Lo position, and the frame
raise is elevated to max/full raised position, and the
screed (if installed) is off the ground and the screed
lock is engaged. See Figure 5.3 on page 5-3 for
screed lock operation.
