Overview
The G8X Management Switch Module (MSM) for the Aspen 8810 switch holds both the control plane
and the switch fabric for the switch. One MSM is required for switch operation; however, adding an
additional MSM to the chassis increases reliability and throughput.
The G8X MSM also has 8 data I/O ports. Refer to “Data Ports on the G8X MSM” for information on
these ports.
For full redundancy you can install up to two G8X MSMs in the Aspen 8810 switch. Each G8X MSM
also contains a temperature sensor, nonvolatile random-access memory (NVRAM), and a real-time
clock.
The MSM for the Aspen 8810 switch provides the active switching fabric and CPU control subsystem.
Each G8X MSM provides 192 Gbps of switching throughput through three ASICs.
Figure 63 shows the front view of the G8X MSM.
