Scanning function
Protecting FOMA terminal from
hazardous data
Update pattern definition first, then keep the pattern
definition up-to-date.
For the data or programs that are imported to the FOMA
terminal by downloading from a website, i-mode
messages or SMS, this function detects data and deletes
data or inhibits activation of applications that may cause
troubles.

Pattern definition used for the check is upgraded as
needed for a new problem. When Set auto-update is
"Enable", pattern definitions are automatically
downloaded and updated when they are upgraded.

The Scanning function provides a certain
countermeasure against invasion of data which causes
some trouble in the mobile phone, when viewing
website or receiving messages, etc.
Note that, if pattern definition corresponding to specific
troubles has not been downloaded to the mobile phone
or such pattern definition does not exist, this function
cannot prevent those troubles from occurring.

Different pattern definition is used for different mobile
phone models. In addition, note that DOCOMO may
stop distribution of pattern definition for models that
have been on the market for 3 years or more.
◆ Setting Scanning function <Set scan>
When making this setting "Valid", data or program to be
executed is automatically checked.

Select "Disable" if you do not use auto-update.

When the auto-update of pattern definitions is
completed, appears on the stand-by display.
Select the icon and check the message, then press

◆ Updating pattern definition
When Set auto-update is "Disable" or (Failed to auto-
update of pattern definition) appears on the stand-by
display, manually update the pattern definition.

When update is not necessary, "Pattern
definitions are up-to-date." appears. Press

INFORMATION

When updating pattern definition, your private information
concerning the mobile phone (model, serial number, etc.) is
automatically sent to the server (the server for the Scanning
function managed by DOCOMO). DOCOMO does not use
the sent information for purposes except scanning
function.

When the correct date and time have not been set on the
FOMA terminal, the pattern definitions cannot be updated.
･
Updating pattern definition is stopped by a voice call
arrived. When there is receiving data using a videophone,
an external device or the infrared communication function,
the updating pattern definition does not stop.
･
When the set date and time of Alarm clock or schedule
comes while updating the pattern definitions, the screen
notifying the start date and time appears and the alarm
sounds, continuing updating pattern definition.
◆ Displaying scan results
■ Displaying problem element scanned
a
"Detail" while a warning level screen appears.
When 6 or more problem elements have been
detected, the names of the 6th and subsequent
problem names are omitted and the total number of
the detected problem elements appears.
