The factory default setting for the INJT T4 trimpot corresponds to an injectate
thermistor which is compatible with Edwards/Spacelabs monitors, with the injectate
solution at 20 °C. If necessary, this trimpot can be adjusted to accommodate other
cardiac output monitors or alternative injectate temperatures as required.
To re-calibrate the INJT T4 trimpot to suit an alternate CO monitor, consult the
operator or service manual of the monitor to determine the resistance specification for
the injectate thermistor at the required injectate temperature. For example, for an
American Edwards or Spacelabs system and 20 °C injectate solution, the nominal
thermistor resistance would be 67.7 kilo-ohms (k
Ù ). This is the factory default setting
of the INJT T4 trimpot.
Enter the CO menu of AMPS-1 and select INJT T4 under CARDIAC INJECTATE.
Disconnect the CO monitor from the Cardiac Output Adaptor 8000-454, and use an
ohmmeter to probe pins 1 and 3 of the "Injectate" jack on the adaptor (see
Figure 58 ).
Adjust the INJT T4 trimpot of AMPS-1 until the required resistance is indicated on the
ohmmeter. The trimpot may be tuned over a range of approximately 0.1 to 100 k
Ù .
Once the INJT T4 trimpot has been calibrated, the Cardiac Output Adaptor can then
be connected to the CO monitor via the associated body and injectate temperature
cables.
