2.7 Connecting to AMPS-1
As shown in Figure 11 , the top side of AMPS-1 features a full set of universal ECG
snaps and jacks, enabling connection of any 3-, 5-, or 10-lead ECG device. AHA and
IEC colour-coded rings surrounding each post and jack aid in connection of
corresponding U.S. or international patient leads to the proper ECG signals.
Alternating snaps and jacks make connecting easy and conveniently keep leads out of
the way. The ECG jacks accommodate standard 3 mm or 4 mm plugs.
The front/bottom panel of AMPS-1 provides connections for DC Power in, bi-
directional RS-232 communication, 4 Invasive Blood Pressures, Cardiac Output (AUX),
and Temperature. A pushbutton to toggle respiration output (LA or LL), referenced to
RL, is also located along the this panel.
A wide array of Invasive BP, IUP and temperature cables are available and are listed in
Appendix B of this manual.
A stereo phono jack located on the right side of AMPS-1 provides a high-level ECG
output on the tip connection. The ring connection of the stereo jack provides an input
for receiving an externally-generated trigger signal of 2.5 to 5 volts. This trigger signal,
which is meant to represent the discharge of a defibrillator, is monitored by AMPS-1
during defibrillator training simulations and causes the ECG waveform to change in
response to the trigger.
