AMPS-1 OPERATING MANUAL
2.8 Navigating AMPS-1 Menus
The menus of AMPS-1 have been arranged to minimize, as much as possible, the
keystrokes needed to select a particular setting.
The main keys on the keyboard (0 - 9) are associated with a high level function, for
example, ECG, RESP, PACER and so on. Each time a function key is pressed, you are
taken to a menu which allows you to change the simulation settings for that function.
The upper line of the LCD screen will show a
p aram e te r
for the selected function. For
example, parameters associated with the ECG function are: Rate, Amplitude, Baseline
and Artifact. LEFT (
t
) and RIGHT (
u
) arrow keys on the right side of AMPS-1,
under the LCD, allow you to scroll through the available parameters. UP (
) and
DOWN (
) arrow keys are used to modify the
s e ttin g
for the displayed parameter.
Settings may be numeric (e.g., AMPL: 0.5mV), descriptive (e.g., ARTIFACT:
MUSCLE), or a toggle (e.g., NEONATAL: ON [OFF]). After a selection is made,
ENTER is pressed to activate the selection.
ECG, arrhythmia (ARRY) and blood pressure (BP) simulations have additional
parameters which are set less frequently. To streamline operation of AMPS-1, these
particular parameters are segregated in an "Advanced" group under the ADV (7) key.
"Advanced" parameters are accessed by pressing the ADV (7) key while in any function
that provides "Advanced" parameters. These functions, and the ADV key, have a
copper-colored border around the key to indicate "Advanced" settings are provided.
For example, to access the "Advanced" settings for ECG, press the ECG key, followed
by ADV. Parameters provided by the "Advanced" menu for ECG include ST DEPR
(ST segment depression/elevation); AXIS; and NEONATAL (on or off).
After selecting any simulator setting, the setting
w ill n o t take e ffe c t
until
the ENTER key is pressed. This prevents inadvertent changes of
waveform during the menu-scrolling process.
With AMPS-1 in ALPHA mode, repeatedly pressing the VIEW button scrolls the
display through a number of screens which list the current settings for selected
parameters, for example, ECG rate and amplitude, pacemaker setup, respiration setup,
blood pressure and so on. If VIEW is pressed immediately after power-up of AMPS-1,
the power-on default settings of the simulator will then be displayed, as previously
described.
