Chapter 12: Ventilation operation
Tunnel stages, fans and inlet sequence
Tunnel ventilation behaves like Power ventilation using single capacity stages except when going into
Tunnel or moving to an upper Tunnel stage, Tunnel inlets are moved first, and when 50% of the opening
for that stage is reached, the fans start. When going out of Tunnel or moving to a lower Tunnel stage, fans
are stopped first and inlets move after.
Tunnel lock in time
When the conditions to begin Tunnel ventilation are met, the Tunnel inlets are first opened. The Tunnel
lock in time begins when Tunnel mode enters into its first stage. During this period, Tunnel ventilation
mode is maintained regardless of the outside or inside temperature conditions. Tunnel mode runs for at
minimum the length of the Tunnel lock in timer. Once the Tunnel ventilation mode begins, it doesn’t stop
for the Tunnel lock in time, even if the outside temperature decreases below the minimum temperature.
The Tunnel lock in time is optional.
Tunnel stage operating temperatures
When Natural ventilation is used:
Tunnel ventilation is induced when both Tunnel and average inside temperature probe sets have reached
the Tunnel stage one start temperature. Tunnel ventilation is stopped and Natural ventilation is restored
when Tunnel average probe temperatures decrease below stage 1 start temperature. The last Tunnel
ventilation stage starts when the Tunnel average probe temperatures reach: Set Point + Power Band-
width + Natural Natural Ban Tunnel Tunnel Bandwidth
When no Natural ventilation is used:
Tunnel ventilation is induced when both Tunnel and average inside temperature probe sets have reached
the Tunnel stage one start temperature, and Power ventilation is restored when Tunnel average probe
temperatures decrease below stage 1 start temperature. The last Tunnel ventilation stage starts when
Tunnel average probe temperatures reach: Set Point + Power Ban Tunnel Tunnel
Bandwidth
Fan rotation in Tunnel mode
Only fan groups with the same CFM capacity in a given Tunnel stage can be assigned to rotation. There-
fore; there must be at least two identical fan groups to use rotation. The rotation check box in the Power
ventilation grid is disabled (grey) when this condition is not met. There can be more than one set of fans
used in rotation in one stage, as long as there are at least two fan groups with same CFM, rotation can be
used amongst them. When using rotation, calculated stage CFM must take into account the number of
fans used at the same time. Fan rotation occurs every Tunnel fan rotation cycle time. Tunnel fan rotation
cycle timer is reset when moving from one Tunnel stage to another.
Tunnel opening
Once Tunnel stage 1 start temperature is reached, the Tunnel inlets move first. Tunnel fans only start
when inlets have reached 50% of the Tunnel stage 1 opening percentage.
If temperature still increases and reaches Tunnel stage 2 start temperature, Tunnel inlets opens first and
fans starts when 50% of the opening is reached.
Tunnel ventilation curve (variable offset and bandwidth)
When using a Tunnel ventilation curve, Tunnel offset, Tunnel bandwidth, and minimum outside tempera-
ture are given according to age.
