3 Switch Unit (SU1)

3.1

Overview

SU1 provides 900 Gbps switching capacity for the network element and also control channel
Ethernet switching at 90 Gbps.

As all the other 8600 cards, SU1 is hot-swappable.

In 8665 Smart Router the maximum con

fi

guration of two SU1s is supported, but the network

element is fully functional with one SU1.

Each LU1 has a direct connection via the backplane to both switch units in 8665 Smart Router.

Coriant recommends to use always two SU1s in 8665 Smart Router.

3.2

• I2C bus for accessing devices such as EEPROMs, A/D converters and temperature sensors

Operation

The function of SU1 is to perform packet switching between the line units on data and control plane
levels. Control and data plane traf

c is separated inside the chassis and they cannot disturb each

other in any situation. The CPU subsystem is used to control the switch unit functionality.
