Operation

The function of LU1 is to perform layer 2 and layer 3 packet switching, packet forwarding, packet

fi

ltering and traf

fi

c management functions. The CPU subsystem is used to control LU1 functionality.

The

fi

gure below presents the LU1 functional block diagram.

2.3.1

CPU Subsystem

The CPU subsystem uses a high performance 64-bit RISC processor with the following memories:

• DDR3 DRAM

• Application FLASH (SD-memory card)

• Boot FLASH

The application software is stored in FLASH memory. Thus, it is possible to update the software
on the

fi

eld when new software feature packs become available. Similarly, the card and interface

parameters are stored in FLASH, so those are restored after reset.
