Check that the operational temperature range of the SFP/SFP+/CFP2 module is suitable for
the installation environment. Note that the temperature of the SFP/SFP+/CFP2 case can be
approximately 15 degrees higher than the ambient temperature. For more information on the
allowed SFP/SFP+/CFP2 case temperature range see chapter Pluggable Transceivers in

LU1 Cooling
It is important to ensure that adequate cooling is used when an LU1 is installed in a subrack. LU1
has temperature sensors that monitor the unit temperatures during operation. LU1 can endure a
single fan failure but if two or all the fans of one fan module fail, the LU1 located above it will go to
power-save
mode after 6 minutes.
The high temperature warning will be raised when the card is operated in high ambient temperature.
This occurs at 45° C/+113° F ambient. Another reason why this warning can be active is if
the air
fl
ow is decreased, which can be caused by a dirty air
fi
lter in the subrack. There are also
critical temperature limits which will cause the cards to go to power-save mode if they are exceeded.
All empty line unit slots have to be shielded with blank cover plates.
