The instructions for use of this equipment consist of different sets of instructions: gen-
eral instructions, instructions that are specific to the Easy Speed device and acces-
sory instructions for the components that are compatible with it (Link 20/40). All
sets of instructions must be carefully read before using the equipment.
Attention!
This document only contains the specific instructions for the use of Easy Speed.
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS EASY SPEED.
This note contains the necessary information for a correct use of the following
product/s: Easy Speed. Any work at height requires the use of Personal Protection
Equipment (PPE) as a protection against the risk of a fall. Before accessing the
work station, all the risk factors must be evaluated (environmental, concomitant,
consequential).
1) FIELD OF APPLICATION
(Fig. 1). This product is a personal protective de-
vice (P.P.E.) against falls from height; it is compliant with the Regulation (EU)
2016/425. EN 12841:2006-A/B - Rope access systems / safety line adjust-
ment device (Type A) or working line ascender (Type B). EN 353-2:2002 - Guid-
ed type fall arresters including a flexible anchor line. RFU 11.075 - Horizontal
or inclined use.
Attention!
For this product the indications of the standard EN
365 must be respected (general instructions / paragraph 2.5).
Attention!
For
this product a periodic thorough inspection is compulsory (general instructions /
paragraph 8).
1.1 - Intended uses.
The equipment is designed for the following applications: pre-
vention of falls from a height (EN 12841-A/B); protection against moderate falls
from a height (EN 12841-A); protection against falls from a height (EN 353-2).
2) NOTIFIED BODIES.
Refer to the legend in the general instructions (paragraph 9 / table D): M6; N1.

3.1 - Main materials

4.1 - General

5) COMPATIBILITY.
5.1 - EN 353-2 / EN 12841-A compatibility.
The device must be connected to
the EN 361 attachment point on the harness (preferably on the front) in one of
the following ways: A) with a EN 362 connector (this use conforms to EN 353-2
only - Fig. 1-9.1); B) with the components Link 20 or Link 40, integrated with two
EN 362 connectors (Fig. 1-9.2-9.4). The device used in compliance with the
EN 353-2 standard can only be used with the ropes listed in the table (Fig. 1).
The equipment, used in compliance with EN 12841-A, can only be used with
semi-static (core + sheath) EN 1891-A ropes, Ø 10.5÷11 mm. The rope models
hereafter listed have been used for the certification procedures: Patron Plus 11 and
Patron 10.5 (Teufelberger).
5.2 - RFU 11.075 compatibility.
The device must be connected to the EN 361
attachment point on the harness (preferably on the front) using the component Link
20 or Link 40 exclusively, integrated with two EN 362 connectors (Fig. 1-9.2).
The device can only be used with the ropes listed in the table (Fig. 1).
5.3 - EN 12841-B compatibility.
The equipment must be integrated with a com-
patible EN 362 connector and can be secured to the EN 813 attachment point
on the harness using a EN 354 lanyard and an additional EN 362 connector
(Fig. 1-9.3). The overall length of the EN 354 lanyard plus the EN 362 connec-
tors must not exceed 150 cm.
Attention!
Never connect the equipment to the EN
358 lateral attachment points on the harness. The equipment can only be used
with semi-static (core + sheath) EN 1891-A ropes, Ø 10.5÷11 mm. The rope
models hereafter listed have been used for the certification procedures: Patron Plus
11 and Patron 10.5 (Teufelberger).
5.4 - General warnings.
1) Never use the equipment on a wire rope or braided
rope. 2) Only use EN 362 oval connectors, maximum 110 mm long and, where
possible, equipped with retaining, anti-rotation system (e.g. Fix Pro). 3) The use of
components that are different from the indicated ones and the use of other slings/
lanyards to extend the connection between the device and the harness is expressly
forbidden. 4) In the illustrations, the letters W and S respectively indicate the work
rope (W) and the safety rope (S).
5.5 - Anchor points.
For the installation of the rope only anchor points that comply
with the EN 795 standard can be used (minimum strength 12 kN or 18 kN for
non-metallic anchors) that do not have sharp edges. These connectors should be
inserted in the dedicated sewn end loop of the rope (EN 353-2 / RFU 11.075)
or in a loop created at the end of the rope using a suitable knot, such as a figure
eight on a bight (EN 12841-A/B).
6) CHECKS.
Further to the checks listed below, comply with what indicated in the general
instructions (paragraph 3). Before each use, verify that: counter block and locking
cam have no cuts, cracks, scratches or signs of wear more than 1 mm deep; the
connector inserted in the connection hole can rotate without external impediments.
7) ISTRUCTIONS FOR USE.
The Easy Speed, used in compliance with the EN 353-2 standard, is indicated for
vertical use in fall arrest systems and has also been tested for horizontal / inclined
use according to the RFU 11.075. The Easy Speed used in compliance with the
EN 12841-A/B standard is suitable for rope access.
7.1 - Installation.
Open the mobile side plate of the device by rotating it and
check that the position of the locking wheel is in the Go position (Fig. 3.1).
Position the device on the rope in the correct direction (Fig. 3.2) and close the
mobile side plate (Fig. 3.3). Insert into the connection hole of the device the upper
connector of the Link 20/40 component or a single compatible connector (Fig.
3.4).
Danger of death!
The device is a uni-directional device, do no invert the
orientation for use (Fig. 8.1).
7.2 - EN 353-2 / EN 12841-A functional tests.
Make sure that the device slides
in both directions without hindrance by dragging it using the connector (Fig. 4.1).
Apply a sharp pull downward to verify that the device immediately locks over the
rope (Fig. 4.2).
Attention!
Only after you have successfully run the functional test,
you can start using the equipment.
7.3 - EN 12841-B functional tests.
Move the blocking wheel onto its REST posi-
tion (Fig. 6.1). While holding the rope under it, make sure that the device slides
upwards without hindrance by pushing it using the connector (Fig. 6.2). Apply a
pull downward to verify that the device locks in the position (Fig. 6.3).
Attention!
Only after you have successfully run the functional test, you can start using the
equipment.
8) EN 353-2 / EN 12841-A USE
.
Follow the instructions given in paragraphs 7.1-7.2. Connect the lower connector
of the Link 20/40 component or the single connector to an EN 361 standard
attachment point on the harness. The device allows the ascent and descent along
a vertical line in complete safety and without user intervention (Fig. 5.2). In the
event of a fall by the user, the system locks instantly (Fig. 5.3).
Attention!
While
in use, the device must always be kept as high as possible and, when used in
conjunction with components Link 20/40, it must always be kept at a higher level
relative to the user’s shoulders.
Attention!
For use in accordance with EN 353-2
and EN 12841-A, the blocking wheel must be kept in the Go position (Fig. 5.1).
Nevertheless, while carrying out work in the same place, it is advisable to lock the
device as high as possible along the vertical line by moving the blocking wheel
onto the Rest position (Fig. 5.4-11.2-14.1).
Attention!
Before any subsequent
movement along the vertical line, don’t forget to move the blocking wheel onto
the Go position in order to avoid lifting the line itself (in case of ascent) or loading
the equipment (in case of descent).
8.1 - Warnings EN 353-2.
1) Prearrange on the lower end of the flexible anchor
line a security knot at distance not less than of 30 cm from the rope’s end (Fig.
10.3). Alternatively, use a flexible anchor line fitted with a sewn termination loop.
2) In order to improve the performance of the fall arrest device, it is advisable to
connect a weight (2÷5 kg) to the lower end of the flexible anchor line (Fig. 10.1).
3) During the progression on rope, make sure that the rope is taut (Fig. 12) and
that it does not come into contact with sharp edges or damaging substances. 4)
Except from the configurations complying with RFU 11.075, the user must always
be below the anchor point, with a maximum angle of 30° compared to the verti-
cal of the workplace (Fig. 10.2). 5) Working limit load: 140 kg.
8.2 - Warnings EN 12841-A/B.
1) Rope adjustment devices have not to be
used in a fall arrest context. 2) When an adjustable anchor line is loaded with
the entire weight of the user, it becomes a work line and it is therefore necessary
to provide a safety line in addition. Always make sure that no loading of the fall
arrester occurs on the safety line. 3) Avoid any overloading or dynamic loading
on the device because this could harm the anchor line. 4) The anchor line must
be connected to the anchor points placed above the user; any slack of the rope
between the anchor point and the user must be avoided (Fig. 15.1). 5) There are
no restrictions on the inclination of the anchor rope. Nonetheless it is recommend-
ed to work as vertically as possible with the anchor point, in order to limit the risk
of a pendulum effect. 6) The technical performances of the anchor line might vary
considerably during use, due to wear dirt, moisture or repeated uses on the same
stretch: keep in mind that these variances will influence the behavior of the rope
inside the device. 7) Different types of anchor lines can affect the characteristics
and the safe operation of the device. 8) Working load limit: 140 kg (EN 12841-
A) or 100 kg (EN 12841-B).
9) EN 12841-B USE.
Follow the instructions given in paragraphs 7.1-7.3.
9.1 - Operation.
The device used in accordance with EN 12841-B is intended
for the progression on a work line and must always be used in conjunction with
a Type A rope adjustment device and a safety line. The device must be moved
along the rope using the connector (Fig. 7.1) and it locks in the position in which
