UV Transilluminators
If you are working with UV transilluminators, it is extremely important that optimum protection of
skin and eyes will be guaranteed. You should wear UV safety glasses or a UV face protection
mask. Please protect your arms and hands as well by wearing long-sleeved clothing and
gloves.

ultraviolet radiation
b)
Blue Light Transilluminators
No special UV protection is required for blue light transilluminators. The tubes used in the blue
light transilluminator have an emission wavelength of 400 - 480 nm. These tubes are also used,
for example, to check paper money in banks and industrial facilities.
The health hazard caused by these tubes is low. The UV-A intensities are reduced by 2 filter
glasses.
c)
White Light Transilluminators
No UV protection is needed for white light transilluminators. Nevertheless, make sure to wear
standard safety glasses due to the high intensity of the light source. These safety glasses en-
sure that bright, intense light intensity will not be harmful to the eye of the beholder. All safety
glasses that reduce the light intensity by approx. 50% can be used.
Every transilluminator may be operated only by persons who have been trained and instructed
accordingly and who possess the appropriate authorization. These persons must be familiar
with the user's manual and act in accordance with the instructions contained therein. The re-
spective competence of the operation personnel have to be defined clearly.
Please observe these safety instructions strictly to avoid any health hazards.
Installation of the Transilluminator
Place the device feet of the transilluminator into the four dents in the bottom plate of the
NightOWL II. This ensures that the transilluminator is always positioned perfectly. Install the
transilluminator such that the power switch is facing the front.
Plug the enclosed power cord into the lower of both mains sockets on the rear, right side of the
dark box.
Once the transilluminator has been installed, you have to
– due to the height of the
transilluminator
– enter a focus height (sample height) of 103 mm plus the height of the sample
used.
