10.3 Installing the Gas Anesthesia Unit
The modules for the gas anesthesia unit are preassembled. Only a few tubes have to be con-
nected. The function of the unit is described in a short functional description:
The incoming pressured air is regulated at the flow meter and mixed with the oxygen after hav-
ing passed through the flow meter. This mixed air / O
2
passes the vaporizer where Isoflurane is
added. This mixture is either distributed to the NightOWL or to the induction box via the stain-
less steel valves at the vaporizer rack. Both outlets (NightOWL and induction box) lead to the
carbon filters of the vacuum controller.
The vacuum controller is driven by the pressured air as well. A vacuum is generated to suck off
the gas through the carbon filters in order to remove the Isoflurane from the air. The common
outlet of the vacuum controller leads to another carbon filter to remove possibly remaining
Isoflurane from the air. The foot pedal activates the sucking off procedure of the induction box to
get the gas out of the box before opening.
