Ethernet camera (NC100e, NC320e)
Due to the system design, forced ventilation is used for this camera type. A fan installed into the
ventilation cap pumps air through the camera by means of a hose bellows; the air exits again on
the opposite side.
Do not operate the camera without ventilation; otherwise it may be destroyed.
To protect the camera against damage, a pro-
tective cap secured by knurled screws is in-
stalled in front of the camera. This cap has to
be removed before installing the camera.
Carefully place the camera onto the camera
holder with the NightOWL logo facing the
front and fix it using two knurled screws to the
left and right of the camera, as shown in the
picture. The two bellows (1) of the ventilation
are fixed to the ventilation adapter of the
camera (2) using special magnet quick locks.
To secure the magnet connections, a fixing
screw is inserted at the side and tightened.
The Ethernet cable (RJ-45 connector) and the
power supply connector (15 pole Sub-D con-
nector) are plugged in at the upper plate of
the camera. The cables are fixed to the cam-
era using a cable holder. The filter block of the power supply cable is fixed to the top of the
camera using Velcro fastener.
emCCD Camera (NC100em)
In contrast to the cameras mentioned above, the NC100em does not communicate via a stand-
ard interface. This model uses a special interface card which is plugged into the PCI bus of the
PC. The card is installed into a free PCI slot just like any ordinary graphics card. However, since
the card requires an extra power supply, a free AMP connector, like those used for power con-
nection of CD drives, has to be inserted into the socket on the rear side of the card. Otherwise,
malfunctions may occur, since the camera is also supplied with power by the PCI card. The da-
ta connection to the computer is established with a 36-pole special cable, which either protrudes
from the rear panel of the NightOWL, or with a special cable which is plugged into the rear pan-
el of the NightOWL. The other cable end is connected to the socket which is located on the in-
terface card in the PC.
The camera itself is fixed using the two knurled screws on the camera transport unit. The elec-
trical connections must face the device rear panel, i.e. the interior of the housing. We recom-
mend to fix the camera only after both plug-in connections (data cable and power connector)
have been installed on the rear side of the camera. The power connector is included with the
camera. It is plugged into the respective socket to the left above the camera and secured
against removal by a sleeve nut. The data cable includes a self-protection mechanism which
can be opened by pushing down both springs on either side of the connector.
