4.1.7 Connecting to the PC
Ethernet Version (NC100e, NC320eID 40508-10; 40508-20)
An Ethernet as well as an USB-connection connection is required to control the NightOWL II
with NC100e or NC320e camera and to transfer data. An additional network adapter (PCI card,
USB) is needed to connect the PC to the local network (Internet access, network printer, etc.)
If the NightOWL II is connected via local network installation (wall outlets or network switch),
you must observe the local IP address range to rule out possible double assignment of IP ad-
dresses of the NightOWL II.
Direct connection between NightOWL and PC is to be preferred, since interferences may occur
in the network due to data traffic.
You need an Ethernet card (RJ-45) in the PC to connect the NightOWL II. Most PCs already
have such a port “on board”. If not, or if the network interface is already in use, you need an ad-
ditional card (PCI or USB network adapter). Please consult the PC's user manual for information
on how to install the network adapter.
To ensure correct operation of the NightOWL II, the network card has to be set to an IP address
in the range 192.168.1.x. How to set this IP address in your operating system is described in the
respective operating system user manuals.
Please keep in mind that the IP addresses 192.168.1.12 and 192.168.1.117 are already used
internally by the NightOWL II.
