Set the home position as described above (step 3).
7.1.4 Camera Lift Hits the Ceiling of the Acquisition Chamber
Take the bottom plate out of the acquisition chamber. You may hold it on both slants on the
side.
Turn the spindle that moves the camera lift to the left. This will move the lift slightly down
so that the blockade is eliminated and the camera can be controlled again by the soft-
ware.
Set the home position as described above (step 3).

Focus drive blocked
In rare case the focus motor could be blocked at the home position due to a improper initialisa-
tion. In this case the focus axis gets stuck at the mechanical end stop and cannot be moved by
the motor. The initailisatin fails and the focus can no longer be used. As a result all images are
out of focus. To remove the blocking proceed as follows.

Remove all accessories (ring light, heated table etc.) from the baseplate of the
NightOWL.

Switch on the NightOWl and wait until the init procedure is finished. Due to the blocked
motor the init will be finished after a 2 minute timeout.

Launch indiGO and login with a valid administrator account.

Move the camera (z-axis) into a low position (step 80000)
using indiGO. Klick on , select Position
and choose Z-Axis and Position from the dropdown menu.

Enter 80000 steps at the prompt and press OK to move
the camera to the desired position.

Switch off the NightOWL II and do not turn it on again
since it will move back to the home position.

The shaft who moves the focus drive is located between the two guiding
rails. At the lower position the shaft is flattened. This flatened position can
be used to turn the shaft counterclockwise unsing a plier or a similar tool to lower the focus drive.
Turn the shaft until the focus drive moved down approx. 5 mm.

Turn on the NightOWL and watch if the focus drive is homing properly. The focus drive must run
up until the home position switch is reached. Then the drives moves back a few steps to finish the
initialization.
