8.1.3 Cleaning the Lens
The lens can only be cleaned if no filter wheel is installed. It should only be cleaned using pres-
surized air spray or cleaning agents available in photo shops!

Move the camera transport unit to the working height, i.e. so high above the bot-
tom plate that you can easily reach the lens from below.
o
Therefore move the camera (z-axis) into the low position (step 60000) using the
service software or indiGO. Click on
, se-
lect Position and choose Z-Axis and Position from
the dropdown menu.
o
Enter 60000 steps at the prompt and press OK to
move the camera to the specified position.
o
Pull off the filter wheel from below so that the un-
derside of the camera lens is accessible.
o
Clean the underside of the objective. Make sure there are no residues (dust, clean-
ing agent) on the glass surface of the lens.
o
Install the filter wheel again. Make sure that the filter wheel audibly clicks into
place.
o
Move the camera to the lowest position possible.
o
Unscrew both knurled screws fixing the camera to the transport unit.
o
Carefully lift the camera and clean the top side of the lens. Make sure there are no
residues (dust, cleaning agent) on the glass surface of the lens.
o
Carefully place the camera onto the transport unit again.
o
Fix the camera with both knurled screw to the transport unit.
o
Turn the NightOWL II off, wait about 5-10 seconds and then turn it on again. The
device will be initialized new.
