Installation and Operating Instructions

SETTING SIGNAL GAIN AND LIFT LEVELS

Pyramid AC and DC receivers have Gain and Lift amplifiers, and they can be remotely controlled using the Pyramid 2

Keyboard. Using the keyboard controls, the Gain and Lift amplifiers can be used to compensate for signal reductions

caused by transmission over coaxial cables. They should not be used to compensate for poorly auto-iris levels, and should

only be used once the levels have been measured at the matrix location with an oscilloscope or video level meter.
Gain is used to increase (or decrease) the video gain on a receiver. Whilst it adjusts the whole of the video signal, it is best

to increase the Gain until the sync level is set at 300mV. This is because the sync is a constant level in the video signal,

whereas the video content (luminance) is dependant on the scene content.
Lift is used to increase (or decrease) the high frequency gain of the video signal from a receiver. This has the effect of

increasing the edge sharpness in the image and also the colour saturation. The most reliable way of setting Lift is to set the

colour burst level to 300mV. This is because the burst is a constant high frequency component of the signal.
To set the Gain and Lift amplifier for a receiver, follow the steps below:
1. Select the PTZ camera to which the receiver is attached - see

Selecting a Camera

on page 14.

2. Press the

Utility Menu

screen key.

3. Press the

Receiver Utilities

soft-key.

4. Press the

Level Set

soft-key. The

Gain/Lift Levels

screen is displayed (Figure 77).
