Combined drives operation
(man-machine hybrid)
The pedelec gear is to be used as on normal cycles (see original gear instructions,
attached). It serves primarily to adapt to individual requirements and driving needs of
the track. During the switching process of a hub gear you may shortly withdraw from
pedaling (this makes gear changes easier), with a derailleur gear it is the opposite, you
should pedaling to support the shifting
The gear shifting influences the share of power support, provided by man or machine in
the combined drives operation (hybrid). At a support level of e. g. ‘sport’, a higher gear
with lesser cadence and higher pedal push has a reinforcing effect on the e-portion of
the hybrid power, due to the torque sensor control (high pedal push, more e-power).
On a lower gear - with possibly less pedal pressure – it reduces the e-power support,
with the exception of grades, where a low gear and high pedal pressure come together.
Through the use of ‘torque control’ you can optimize your travel needs via gear and e-
power support and cope with e. g. a consistently fast ride with minor physical efforts or
a higher physical exertion with top average speed. You can also combine a maximum of
man & machine power, to overcome heavy slope lines, which would be not possible for
man power alone. The latter requires naturally more e-power from the battery, so it will
reduce your e-drive reach
A special feature is provided by the use of the stepless gear NuVinci. The automatic
allows to select and to fix the pedalling rate (cadence). Thus, will kept the human
contribution to hybrid power constant and the e-drive contribution being controlled
automatically
Reach experience
It is recommended to collect initial experience with your Hybrid bike away from busy
roads. Try out the different support modes and gear combinations in a quiet
surrounding. Once you feel more confident, you can plunge into traffic and optimize
your driving
Before long and demanding trips, it is advisable to test the range of your Hybrid bike
once and then plan the routes including expected loads and desired stops, where you
can recharge or replace your battery, if necessary
Your hybrid bike is configured with a high-torque motor and an intelligent power
support control. In lawns with slopes you will master gradients e. g. of 10% to 15% and
more in lower gears, depending on your weight and desired speed
With a full charged battery, light load and in ECO mode you can ideally achieve a driving
range of over 100 km. In practical use, the range depends on many factors and may be
reduced in extreme cases to ¼, such as permanent hill climbing
The main influencing factors are:
- Support mode/ level
- Gear switching behavior
- Type of tires and tire pressure
- Age and condition of the battery (capacity)
- Route profile (slopes) and nature (pavement)
- Headwind, ambient temperature, barometric pressure, weather
