Colon
When it is b et w een t w o command mnemonics, a colon mov es the
curren t path do wn one lev el in the command tree. F or example,
the colon in MEAS:VOLT sp ecies that VOLT is one lev el b elow MEAS .
When the colon is the rst c haracter of a command, it sp ecies
that the next command mnemonic is a ro ot lev el command. F or
example, the colon in :INIT sp ecies that INIT is a ro ot lev el
command.
Semic olon
A semicolon separates t w o commands in the same message without
c hanging the curren t path.
Whitesp ac e
White space c haracters, suc h as <tab> and <space> , are generally
ignored. There are t w o imp ortant exceptions. White space inside a
k eyw ord, suc h as :FREQ uency , is not allo w ed. Y ou m ust use white
space to separate parameters from commands. F or example, the
<space> b et w een LEV el and 6.2 in the command :POWer:LEVel
6.2 is mandatory . White space do es not aect the curren t path.
Commas
If a command requires more than one parameter, y ou m ust
separate adjacen t parameters using a comma. Commas do not
aect the curren t path.
Common Commands
Common commands, suc h as *RST , are not part of an y subsystem.
An instrumen t in terprets them in the same w a y , regardless of the
curren t path setting.
