Remote Operation
Language Compatibility
The 8360 B-Series sw ept signal generators supp ort three GPIB
programming languages; net w ork analyzer language, SCPI (Standard
Commands for Programmable Instrumen ts), and M.A.T.E. CI IL
language (Option 700).
Netw ork Analyzer Language
8360 B-Series net w ork analyzer language is syn tactically and
seman tically iden tical to the HP/Agilent 8340/8341 GPIB
mnemonics. Ho w ev er, fundamen tal hardw are dierences suc h as:
command execution time,
instrumen t diagnostics,
and other hardw are sp ecic functions
exist and prev en t executing an unmo died HP/Agilent 8340/8341
program successfully . F or example, the 8360 B-Series do es not
recognize or accept the HP/Agilent 8340/8341 learn string.
T est and Measurement System Language
SCPI is a GPIB programming language dev elop ed b y
Agilent T ec hnologies sp ecically for con trolling electronic test
and measuremen t instrumen ts. It is designed to conform to the
IEEE 488.2 standard whic h pro vides co des, formats, proto cols,
and common commands for use with IEEE 488.1-1987 that w ere
una v ailable in the previous standard. SCPI pro vides commands that
are common from one Agilent pro duct to another for lik e functions,
thereb y eliminating device sp ecic commands.

information on SCPI.
Control Interface Intermediate Language
CI IL is the instrumen t con trol programming language used in
Option 700 8360 B-Series. Lik e the HP/Agilent 8340/8341 E69, the
Option 700 8360 B-Series is M.A.T.E.-compatible. Refer to the 8360
Option 700 Manual Supplemen t for information on this option.
Conv erting from
Netw ork Analyzer
Language to SCPI
T able 3-9 illustrates the programming command in net w ork analyzer
language and its equiv alen t SCPI programming command. In the
table, n um b ers enclosed b y greater/less than sym b ols ( <> ) are
parameters. Braces ( fg ) are used to enclose one or more options
that may b e used zero or more times. A v ertical bar ( j ) can b e read
as \or", and it is used to separate alternative parameter options.
Optional n umeric suxes for SCPI commands are enclosed in square
brac k ets ([ ]).
