CREATING DIAL PLANS—EXAMPLES
The ATLAS Dial Plan acts as the numbering plan for switched connections.
This menu defines to ATLAS the phone numbers and features associated
with dual-tone-multifrequency (DTMF) dialing, Primary Rate ISDN (PRI),
and Basic Rate ISDN (BRI). To operate as a switch, ATLAS must be able to
terminate network connections (network terminations) and emulate the net-
work onto other termination equipment (user terminations).
Understanding Dial Plan Configurations
Understanding Dial Plan configurations results in the successful creation of
a switched connection. This understanding includes determining which of
the connections are acting as network terminations and which are acting as
user terminations. Use Examples 1 and 2 to help clarify the definitions for
these two types of terminations.
Example 1 PSTN Connection Dial Plan Configuration

n this example, access to the PSTN is provided by a single PRI line. There-
fore, this line is configured as a network termination. The remaining circuits,
which feed various types of switched equipment, are configured as user ter-
mination because ATLAS is emulating the network on those connections
(see Figure 10-3).
