The SGM3000 Series three phase meters, SGM3030, SGM3031, SGM3033 and SGM30C2, will
have the ability to maintain line based time using any voltage phase from which the meter can
be powered. The meter will synchronize with the phase A frequency by default and will switch
to phase B if phase A is unavailable or to Phase C if phase A and phase B are unavailable.
The crystal oscillator based time mechanism will be based on a 32.768 kHz crystal oscillator.
The crystal oscillator will always be used to maintain the meter time when the supply voltage is
not present.
If the meter is configured to operate using the line frequency based time mechanism, the meter
will switch to crystal based time when the main supply is unavailable. Upon the supply being
re-energized, the time maintenance method will return to the method selected prior to the loss
of supply.
Setting Date and Time
The real time clock functionality supports the setting of the date and time of the meter locally
and remotely. The SGM3000 Series meters will maintain date and time internally as Year,
Month, Date/Day, Hour, Minute, and Second.
The meter will maintain 24 hour time internally.
Once the meter has set the date and time, the firmware will verify the acceptance and correct
setting of the real time clock. The meter will report an error if the verification procedure fails.
The meter will generate an event log entry when the time/date of the meter is changed. The
time/date change event is classified as a normal priority event by default. The event will
include old time/date. The event time stamp will represent the new time/date. The meter will
send a notification message via the AMI signal.
Date and Time Format
The real time clock functionality supports the setting of the date and time format for display of
date and time on the meter display. The date and time format is purely used for display on the
meter; all other data elements stored or interrogated using a software package such as
MeterMate will be dictated by the relevant format of the stored data, or via any user definable
settings in the software program. The meter supports the setting of the date and time format
for display purposes only.
